Adding additional disks to a Windows Azure Virtual Machine

The new Windows Azure Portal has significantly how to accomplish a wide variety of tasks when it comes to creating and configuring your virtual machines.

One of the operations that has significantly changed in the Windows Azure Portal is the manner in which you add additional disks to a virtual machine.

Fortunately, this can be done in just a few clicks!

Once you click on your Virtual Machine, you click on the Settings button in the toolbar for the Virtual Machine.

From the Settings menu, you simply select the Disks menu item:

From the Disks menu, select the "Attach new" button in the toolbar to create a new Data Disk:

You can specify the name of your data disk as well as the size of the disk.  I usually just change the name of the data disk and accept all of the other defaults.

You can then click OK and your new Disk will be added to your Azure virtual machine!

NOTE: If your additional disk does not show up in your Windows virtual machine, you may have to go into Computer Management and initialize and format the disk in order for it to be available through Windows Explorer.
